Take a good look at this symbol. What is it? It is "The New Symbol of Hope for Colon Cancer". This symbol, along with the immense hope that it represents, was adopted by the National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable (NCCRT). The National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable is a national coalition of public, private, and voluntary organizations whose mission is to advance colorectal cancer control efforts by improving communication, coordination, and collaboration among health agencies, medical-professional organizations, and the public.
Jo Ellen's affiliation with NCCRT comes from her long-time volunteerism with UOAA, the national ostomy organization. She holds the voting chair for UOAA on this august board through a partnership with Gibbs Cancer Center. She also serves on both the By-Laws Committee and the Blue Star Committee.
"The Blue Star raises awareness about how to prevent colorectal cancer, the nation’s third-leading cause of cancer death in both men and women. The NCCRT encourages organizations to incorporate the Blue Star and the universal message that colorectal cancer is preventable, treatable, and beatable into their communications and awareness efforts."
